Multicultural and multifaceted, the City of Lawrenceville remains abreast of the latest trends and innovations. Still, it's the grace of Old Lawrenceville that draws many to our area. In addition to the Historic Courthouse, visitors enjoy the Lawrenceville Female Seminary, now the Gwinnett History Museum. Erected in 1855, this building replaced an original structure, which was destroyed by fire. Eventually converted into a civic center, the Gwinnett History Museum now houses exhibits on farm life, textiles, religion, schools and traditional music. Other displays present interpretations of life in Gwinnett County. The Heritage Programming and Preservation Office additionally promotes heritage preservation through special events, monthly coffeehouse nights, research assistance, and classes in subjects such as quilting, spinning and the dulcimer.
